Level‑4 autonomous tractor fleets from multiple manufacturers have farmed over 1 million acres during the 2026 North American spring season, representing a three‑fold increase from 2025 and signaling rapid mainstream adoption (citation). This growth parallels a surge in agricultural robotics investment, which reached over $4 billion globally in 2026, and rising digital readiness across the sector (citation). As autonomous and AI‑enabled equipment continues to accelerate in scale and capability, proactive efforts are needed to ensure farmworker safety and health in this evolving technological landscape.
To ensure safe and responsible deployment of autonomous and AI‑driven agricultural technologies, the four critical domains below must be examined prior to widespread adoption:
Our proposed conference will convene farm operators, academic researchers, industry leaders, and governmental partners to share current information, identify gaps in knowledge, and define research needs surrounding autonomous and AI‑enabled agricultural systems. Discussions will address emerging issues in risk, regulatory development, workforce preparation, and the broader societal implications of rapidly advancing autonomy and generative AI in agriculture.
